Situated atop Howell Mountain, at 1,700 feet above the Valley floor, our family’s Cold Springs Vineyard is farmed by one of California’s most sought-after viticulturist, and Marc’s good friend, Jim Barbour.
After six vintages of making Aloft, Thomas Brown passed the baton to the eldest of the four daughters, Angelina Mondavi. To ensure a seamless transition between winemakers, Thomas worked closely with Angelina to blend the 2015 vintage with a focus to showcase the best Cold Springs Vineyard had to offer. As a wine-savvy family, words cannot explain the gratitude and honor it was to have Thomas as part of the team to help launch this Howell Mountain brand.
For the first vintage made by Angelina, the 2015 is reminiscent of a blackberry and blueberry pie with hints of cherry, anise, lightly toasted marshmallow, and vanilla. As the wine continues to open in the glass, you will discover flavors of savory cooking spices, such as, oregano, thyme, clove, and nutmeg. A Napa Valley Cabernet is not complete without a touch of tobacco leaf and the aroma of a freshly rolled cigar, compliments of our new French Oak barrels. On the palate, a touch of sweetness is welcomed by notes of white chocolate and lilac followed by mouthwatering acidity and dynamic, yet lush tannins. This full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon can be aged for decades to come.
